KT - JAMBI HOUSE AND JAMBI MOSQUE

For those who wish to discover the history of Kg. Pasir Gajah, a visit to ‘Rumah Jambi’ and ‘Masjid Jambi’ are in order and you will feel excited with the uniqueness of both historical places. Jambi House was erected by Engku Mahmud Engku Abu Bakar, a Jambi royalty in 1933. Based on the facts, it was built by Chinese craftsmen from Chukai, Terengganu, the spot for this house is elevated so as to prevent flood waters from being entering the house. The clean surroundings as well as detailed construction enhance the house’s architecture.

The construction process of the house was time-consuming and laborious. At that time, no modern tools are used except for brute strength and simple hand tools such as wood plane. The timber was taken from the forest by using axes. The roofs, on the other hand, were tiles imported from India and brought to Pasir Gajah by ship which took about two years to arrive. The construction of Jambi House was fully-completed in 1937 and the costs are around RM30, 000.
