Malacca - The Straits Mosque

The Straits Mosque, Melaka or Masjid Selat Melaka or Floating Mosque Melaka, is a mosque on the man-made island of Pulau Melaka near Malacca Town in Malacca state, Malaysia. It looks like a floating structure if the water level is high. The cost of the mosque is about MYR10 million. Masjid Selat Melaka was opened on 24 November 2006 by the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail.

Malacca - Malacca International Airport

Formerly known as Batu Berendam Airport. The terminal complex is being replaced by a new 7,000 square-meter terminal equipped with international-standard amenities. The airport was visited by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on February 2010. In his visit, he officially renamed the airport Malacca International Airport. AirAsia is also said to be considering the route.

Located approximately 20 km from Malacca Town, the beach of Tanjung Bidara has lush vegetation and a tranquil atmosphere. Many hawkers line the beach peddling food and there are amenities such as parking lots, playgrounds and showers.

The beach of Tanjung Kling is one of the more recent developments of the Malacca tourism industry. Located 15 km away from Malacca Town, Tanjung Kling is a pleasant stretch of white beach lined with coconut palms and sea shells, perfect for a quick jaunt.

Pantai Kundur, On this peaceful beach lies a small fishing village, approximately 17 km from Malacca Town. Locals often frequent this beach which is popular for swimming and picnicking. Rows of casuarina trees provide shade as visitors frolic in the water and play on the sand. At night, fishermen head out in boats to ‘Kelongs' (Platforms built on stilts on the sea) and fish for squid and other marine creatures.

• Pulau Besar Located near Umbai and 10 km south of Bandar Melaka, Pular Besar or ‘ Big Island' is a mysterious island that has many fables and legends behind its origin. Some say that the island resembles the shape of a pregnant woman, due to a story that a princess who, heart-broken because of her husband's death, jumped into the seas and consequently, her body floated and took the form of an island. As she was pregnant at that time, Pulau Besar, with a landscape resembling a belly, was born.
• Pulau Upeh the tiny island of Upeh is located near Klebang town in Malacca. During the War, it was used as a scouting point for invading ships in the Straits of Malacca. Also the island was often a nesting ground for pirates. Of course, the pirates have now long been cleaned out, and today, Pulau Upeh is a peaceful getaway for locals and tourists. There is a resort and water-sport facilities are available. Visitors can also visit an ancient well and view relics from World War Two scattered around the island.

It once been abandoned by people. Since year 1990, this place is took over by District Department and develop it become a tourist center. It consist of Inner pools and Outer pools. Inner pools provide visitors bathing and spa facilities. Outer pools is fenced due to the quality of the springs water (contain over rated Sulfur) and NOT suitable for bathing.

Malacca - Dol Said Grave

Naning is an area in modern day Malacca, Malaysia and was founded in 1641. Naning was previously part of Negeri Sembilan but it was later annexed by the British into Malacca in 1832 via the Naning War. Malacca at that time was a British holding. The Naning War started in 1831 and lasted around two years until 1833. The Penghulu of Naning then, Dol Said was enraged over British claim over Naning as part of Malacca. The British demanded that Naning pay 10% of its produce as tribute to Malacca. Dol Said, of course, refused resulting in a British attack upon Naning in 1831. Dol Said managed to fend off the attack with help from his allies. Towards the end of 1832, the British attacked Naning once again with a much larger force. Dol Said did not have the help of his allies this time. His army was defeated and he surrendered. He was offered a pension and a house in Malacca.

Malacca - Hang Tuah Tomb

Hang Tuah is a legendary warrior/hero who lived during the reign of Sultan Mansur Shah of the Sultanate of Malacca in the 15th century. He was the greatest of all the laksamana, or sultan's admirals, and was known to be a ferocious fighter. Hang Tuah is held in the highest regard, even in present-day Malaysian Malay culture, and is arguably the most well-known and illustrious warrior figure in Malaysian history and literature.It was also said that he then vanished into thin air. According to other sources, however, Hang Tuah lived until old age, and his body is said to be have been buried in Tanjung Kling in Melaka, where his tomb can still be seen today.

Born in Pulau Bentam, Sumatra, Hang Tuah was brought up in Kampong Duyong just 5 kilometers away along with his four good friends, Hang Jebat, Hang Kasturi, Hang Lekir and Hang Lekiu, who were also warriors in the Sultan’s court. Malacca - All About Malacca

The tourism and manufacturing sectors are the two most important sectors in the state economy. Malacca has adopted as its slogan, "Visiting Malacca Means Visiting Malaysia" ("Melawat Melaka Bererti Melawati Malaysia"). It is rich in cultural heritage and bears several places of historical interest.

Malacca is home to several modern shopping complexes to attract more visitors to the state. Apart from tourism, Malacca is also a manufacturing centre for products ranging from food and consumer products, through high-tech weaponry and automotive components to electronic and computer parts. There are at least 23 industrial estates that houses some 500 factories from the United States, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.

Jonker Heeren and Adjacent Streets

This is the residential heart of Old Malacca just west of the Malacca River, with its narrow winding streets, beautifully decorated houses, tiny shops, temples and mosques. The whole area is undergoing a renaissance with new shops, restaurants and hotels catering to tourists mushrooming everywhere. However, the area still has a lot of atmosphere and is worth having a look around. One of the streets in this area is Harmony Street (officially Temple street or Jalan Tokong), so called because it contains the prayer houses of Malaysia"s three main faiths - the Cheng Hoon Teng Chinese temple, the Sri Poyatha Vinayagar Moorthi Hindu Temple, and the Kampung Kling Mosque.

Malacca - Bukit China

Bukit China is the one of the largest Chinese cemetery outside of mainland China. Graves can be found here that go back to the late Ming dynasty (mid 17th century). The earliest grave found so far dates to 1622, but unfortunately many graves were exhumed during the British occupation of Malaysia. Bukit China is a famous jogging spot for the locals and jogging tracks are available all over the hill. When you climb on top of the hill, you will have a nice view of the town.

Malacca - King’s Well (Hang Li Po)

Legends have it that Hang Li Po was a Chinese princess from the Ming dynasty who was sent to Malacca to wed Sultan Mansor Shah in the 15th century when the Malacca Sultanate was at its zenith. She had 100 followers who were all settled on Bukit China, which means Chinese Hill, and this well, at the foot of the hill, was where they got their water.

Step back in time with a visit to this museum which is an actual Peranakan heritage town house and is a great example of Peranakan culture. It is located on Heeren Street (now known as Tun Cheng Lock Street). 'Straits Chinese' or the Baba and Nyonya, are Chinese of noble descendants who have adopted much of the Malay culture. The public can now view this unique Baba Nyonya heritage at the private museum, called the Peranakan Museum, run by the Babas and Nyonyas of Malacca. This type of design is a typical rich Chinese Baroque and Chinese Palladian style homes.

Pemuda BN - Jelajah One Malaysia

Yours truly is currently in the entourage of Jelajah One Malaysia #JOM, a people centric programme initiated by Pemuda BN. Basically in this series of JOM, BN Youth will go on a whirlwind tour of 5 states (Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan) taking part in various community based programmes.

So today, were going to witness one of the most interesting event that is rarely seen these days in cities and towns but alive and well in rural malay village a typical kampung mass circumcision. Circumcision is a medical procedure in which the foreskin of a penis is removed and is practiced in the Islamic faith. It’s also a coming of age procedure for a young male muslim by which it is considered the first step in a transition into manhood.
